Mrs. Maggie Arnold teaches the Preschoolers at St. Mary Cathedral School. The Preschool teacher position is a recent addition and was first offered during the 2024-2025 school year. Before joining the SMS faculty and staff, she was a Kindergarten Aide at St. Vincent’s De Paul Parish School for seven years. She has been married to Tyler for fourteen years and together they have two children, Rory and John. She gained a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, with an emphasis in Childhood and Adolescence Development from Southern New Hampshire University. Mrs. Arnold’s degree has taught her “the importance of understanding how a child’s mind is developing, and the stages that it goes through. Being able to work with the child at their level and in ways that will help build those skills is essential in Early Childhood Education.” Ever since she was a child herself, she has had an ardent desire to work with children and to be a teacher. “Being able to be the type of safety for kids that I had growing up with was always important to me.” She credits her first grade teacher as the biggest influence in her choice by demonstrating what it means to care and the impact it can have on a child. She grew up as the third oldest in a family of nine, some of which have graduated from SMS. She loves how her job offers something new everyday. Watching the preschoolers love, play, and grow is incredibly rewarding for Mrs. Arnold. Nature has always been a special place for her and she truly enjoys walking and hiking with her family. She especially loves being at the beach and traveling in general. Her family has several pets. They have a dog named Bean, a cat named Louie, a fish named Dodger, and three birds named Kiwi, Galaxy, and Cloud. They also love all sports in their house! Her favorite teams are the 49ers, San Francisco Giants, and the San Jose Sharks. She is passionate about music and nature, so a lot of activities that she shares with her family tend to revolve around those. She is enthusiastic about any causes that deal with human rights and loving our neighbors. Evenings in the summer are one her favorite things. Barbecuing, relaxing outside, and hanging out as a family in the warmth brings back a lot of fun memories for Mrs. Arnold, and ones that she loves to create with her children. One of her favorite quotes is from “The Lord of the Rings,” when Gandalf says, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
