Jackie Weidenbenner teaches Spanish I to eighth graders and serves as the Kindergarten assistant. She has been teaching for thirteen years, two of which have been at St. Mary Cathedral School. At, Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, she acquired a Masters Degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. From her time studying abroad in Costa Rica and meeting diverse classmates in college, she has gained valuable experiences. Teaching English as a second language at Southeast Missouri State University has also deepened her knowledge. She has always loved learning and desires to share the passion with her students. She credits teachers from both St. Mary Cathedral School and Notre Dame High School for inspiring her the most in her teaching career. If it were possible, she could learn languages all day! In addition to Spanish, she is proficient in French and has taught it as well. Her favorite hobbies are walking and hiking. She especially enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, and reading. Her husband is David, and together they have three children: Louis, Marcela, and Stephanie. She is passionate about helping babies and children, especially those who are ill; she supports St. Jude’s and Birthright. She volunteers at St. Mary Cathedral as an extraordinary minister of the Holy Eucharist, a lector, and helps with radio Mass and the church’s youth group. Her favorite music genre is Lofi and Alternative music, especially Matt Fradd’s Catholic Lofi. One of her favorite quotes is by St. Catherine of Siena; “Nothing great is ever achieved without much enduring.”
