Mrs. Layne Burner teaches third grade and has been teaching at St. Mary Cathedral School since 2008, with two years prior experience. At Southeast Missouri State University, she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in special education. A valuable lesson that she has gleaned from her education is that, “Every moment can be used as a teachable moment and it should be fun!” With both of her parents being teachers, she grew up valuing education and only desiring such a career. As an SMS alumni, her elementary teachers were also strong influences in her teaching decision. She loves seeing her students’ excitement when they realize that learning can be both easy and fun! A favorite travel destination is Walt Disney World. Mrs. Burner and her husband, Shad, have been married since 2007. They have two daughters, Kaydence and Lennon. They also have a very spoiled pit bull named Sunny. She loves to watch football and has been a longtime Chiefs fan. Her favorite hobby is reading a good book, especially outside in the sunshine of her deck. One may also find her playing volleyball, doing Zumba, listening to music, completing crafts, camping, or swimming. She is passionate about animal rescue and supports the cause, “Adopt, don’t shop!” Her daughters volunteer alongside her at Southeast Missouri Pets. She enjoys listening to classic rock such as Queen and The Beatles. One of her favorite quotes is, “All you need is love.”
