On May 2 at 12:30pm, families are invited to join students in a procession honoring Mary as Queen of Heaven.
TheĀ entire month of May is dedicated to Mary, Mother of God. As nature is waking up, it is lovely to honor the one who gave life to our Heavenly King. Her statue is crowned with a wreath of flowers and children can bring flowers from home to place at the base of her feet. Hymns and prayers will also be shared.
The roots of this custom date back centuries and the practices have developed over time. Members from the Jesuit Order in Rome are largely responsible for its spread, making it global.
“During this month Christians both in church and in the privacy of the home offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God’s mercy come down to us from Mary’s throne in greater abundance.” -Pope Paul VI
Grandparents Bingo immediately follows May Crowning and is held in the gymnasium for an afternoon of excitement. Candy or other fun items can be donated prior and will be distributed as prizes for winners.
